My Heart's True Lover

Each morning anew I wait & greet my heart's true Lover.

Together in these earliest moments, life is unspeakable pleasure!

Just to know our combined presence & union is purest joy!

My heart greets & adores my true Lover, readying me for the day.

I repeat again & again that Name which thrills my soul,

making no requests; my true Lover & I say no words, the moment is still.

It has not always been this way: for I can yet recall

there were times when I ignored my true Lover's heart & will.

In my rush to impress the world I took for granted that sweet grace.

There was worthlessness in my heart; ignorance & sin hid my face.

But life is now complete, & joy flows freely again!

My heart is possessed of my true Lover & my true Lover's heart is mine!

Author's Notes/Comments:

One early morning, I was wandering in a local church before a seminar, & happened into the Singles Class.  There was a sort of pleading poem on the board, genderless, aching for true love.  All the class had been invited to comment on it.  I left this, unsigned, as my way to make a point that there are more than two kinds of lovers....or Lovers.  1974. CAT mem.
