Dinner

We met early for dinner and...

you requested an appetizer of my admiration,

it was fresh, hot, and very spicy.

The meal progressed and...

you ordered a bowl of my attention,

it was thick, flavorful, and warm.

Next, you demanded...

a large salad plate of my emotions,

they were mixed, colorful, and tasty.

For the entree, you decided...

to consume my intellect,

it was heavy, earthy, and comforting.

Finally...

you desired a dessert of my body,

it was nurturing, sensuous, and receptive.

Then, to my surprise you announced that you were full...

you prepared to cleanse your pallette with a sorbet of my soul, but I said no...enough.

The table was cleared.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Bernie, always had a larger appetite than me.

THIS THE FIRST OF YOUR POEMS THAT I HAVE READ. WOW! I ENJOYED IT THROUGHLY. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE.

This poem shows how a person can take you for all your worth and won't stop until you've had enough. You showed how Bernie wanted to eat all of you and take more until he was full. You related your body to his hungry needs and demands as you were passive, but when he was full he expected to be able to go back to an all-he-can-eat buffet. You added a delightful twist when you pulled away the dishes of your remains for you had had enough. Excellent poem.
