He wasn't a doctor who cured a disease

He didn't negotiate with the Chinese

He wasn't a Senator or a Mayor

He was a decent baseball player

On my favorite team, the Mets

When I was young, who can forgets

The fight that he had with Pete Rose

Though half his size, they came to blows

A scrappy player, a great shortstop 

Though not so big, came out on top
