Odin

Hundreds of thousands

Have known the anguish

That none have ever felt before.

"No man is an island".

Well Mr. Donne,

That is not to say

A man cannot feel as one.

Bridges are oft burned

Treasures oft stolen away

Through carelessness

Or ignorace, or

Worst of all

Through no fault of one's own.

Once bitten, twice shy?

Foolish advice, say the bold.

Once bold, now hermitic

Sealed fast in love's cloister

Cynic at last,

Diffident in the face of infinity,

Veteran of its ephemeral nature.

And much the worse for it.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Believe it or not, 'Odin' is the Romanization of 'alone' in Russian.
