Hiccough

The soldier looked in a glass ball today

Saw a glimpse of his own aftermath

And he didn't like it

Defeatism?

On HIS face?

Impossible

But clear as day

Now those are some sad eyes

A crushing day on the field

But it was he, was it not?

Master of his own destiny

Knowing what he wanted

And trying his best to get it

Doing the unthinkable

To achieve

The unexpendable

Like a proper warrior

Failure means death

Now he's got a foot towards the grave

Look in his eyes

You can see it

Deadpan, almost empty

Almost

There's a glimmer

A strong glimmer

Like the brightest stars

They're far away

But you can't miss them shining

Expending all their might

Just to reach a little light

To your eyes

Make them glow a little more than they did before

No matter how far away you are

From THIS star

It will always glow

Bright and firm and confident

Just because

It knows

You can see it

Even so

Everyone has a dim day

But one dim day

In a sky full of shining

Is just a check

And not a norm

It makes you real

(Just like you

And I)

And so the soldier

Grins back at his dead face

With his real face

What can a mirror know?

The soldier's heart knows

What's worth it.

And will never be defeated

Untill that heart

Stops.
