My father's best friends

Prose poem: Best friends forever.
My father is always in company of two good friends: Pepsi light and cigarettes, no matter where, no matter with whom, no matter the place, no matter the time, he is always in company of his fellow friends. Whether he is on a business trip or on vacations, the only thing that couldn’t be missing was Pepsi or cigarettes, no matter the circumstances he always was accompanied of those two things, no matter the place in the world he would find the way to get to his friends. No matter the distances or the difficulties to get his friends, he is capable of overcoming all types of obstacles and impediments, even walking several kilometers when he almost never walks. You can know whether he was around or not by just seeking in the air the smell of the remaining smoke of the cigarette impregnated in his shirt and all his body, no matter how much baths he took, the smell is always there, like if it has become part of him. He can drink a 2.5 Pepsi light in just half a day like if it was a glass of water, and he can smoke a pack of cigarettes like if they were made of chocolate. No matter if the doctors tell him not to do this, even when they can´t see his bones in a radiography, my father is not scared by the fact that his friends are killing him from the inside. And no matter how much effort he makes in trying to leave his friends, he can´t just make it, and he reconciles just in a couple of days after the great effort. And neither pills nor non smoking patches can make him quit to his very best friends, he always goes back with them. If someday he is angry, you can be sure that is because he hasn´t drunk his Pepsi in the last hours, or because he no longer has cigarettes. You will never see him drinking a single drop of alcohol, but instead you´ll see him drinking liters and liters of Pepsi and nicotine. No matter the photos of the dead rats and all the publicity of lung cancer or diseases related to this, he will never stop doing this and no one can make anything to stop it because it has become essential part of him. Pepsi and cigarettes are like water and snacks for everyone else.
