As She Sat There Rocking

Tears falling from decades before

Her starvation for youth

She can only recall.

Her years in the choir when she used to sing

Or the time she saw doves as the church bells rang.

When she first had children,

she had tears of joy.

Further back, it was only a corsage.

Further back, she was just a girl

Trying on her mother's dress with a long lace of pearls.

Further back, she was just a baby in the womb

Now an old lady pondering the days to come soon.
