Elegy For Justin Fashanu

I mourn your passing, Justin Fashanu:

what our society had done to you

by haters should be punished and reviled.

You suffered what, in past time, Oscar Wilde,

endured.  And to the prejudiced I say:

what business of yours was it, anyway?

Their persecution---cruel, uncouth, and snide---

compelled you, Justin, to your suicide:

that sort of crass, prejudiced cruelty

bespeaks the worst parts of humanity.

Starward
