An only child, left to my own narrow devices
(my older cousins did not care to play with me)
I look to books for new companionship (the prices
paid later) and, through them, shyly met Poetry---
and she reached out for this awkward nerd unabashedly.

Nerd is such a positive like many cycles we don't always appreciate who we are and what made us or what we've overcome. Glad poetry was such a wonderful crutch. It's been mine all my life.

Thank you for your comment, much appreciated. I can now see those days in the context of my life, which is a bit clearer at almost 60 than at, say, 20, or 30.
