Elder Internet Poet: A Late Homage

You posted early on the internet.

I looked to you as a splendid example,

considering myself as in your debt.

Yet you chose to revise a poem of mine---

a gesture I had not sought nor invited,

and then acted as insulted or slighted

because I would not change a single line,

nor give attention to each offered sample.

I had thought highly of you, greatly thrilled

to read your poems. and your interpretation

of them.  Too soon, my honest admiration,

once vocal, was now silenced and bestilled.

You said you thought you might not write again;

that age had robbed you of your inspiration;

and that your drafts must fall to "might have been."

I still respect you; thus, respectfully,

I take on faith your present estimation---

and its demand for due consideration

of your decline; and, sadly, must agree.

Starward
