GRIEF GAVE ME BACK
TO MYSELF
Slowly.
In pieces I didn't recognize at first.
Returned to me
through the fire of losing you.
The parts that were performing.
The parts that were people pleasing.
The parts that had forgotten
what actually mattered underneath
all the noise.
Gone.
Burned away by something
too real and too large
to leave room for anything false.
What came back was simpler.
More honest.
More mine.
Shaped by loss into something
I could finally recognize as true.
