"It was sadness, Not Depression"

I cried then I slept.

The tears had done their work.

Depression never sleeps.

Sadness eventually gets tired.

I lost my smile for a while.

Then a song, a memory,

A stranger's kindness brought it back.

Depression steals the color.

Sadness only borrows it.

I wanted someone to hold me.

I still reach for the phone.

Still hoped someone

Would understand.

Depression locks the door.

Sadness leaves it open.

That's how I knew.

The darkness was hurting me.

But it wasn't becoming me.

Because even then,

I was looking for the light.

I just couldn't see it for a little while.
