In memories and nightmares grey
A horror fell under closed eyes
There he was waiting to prey
And silence muffled all my cries
Long arms, long legs, long fingernails
A scream I couldn't even shriek
His skin was white, whiter than pale
My pulse did rise but it was weak
Behind the dresser inside my room
The man slinked up, revealed his face
No hair, sharp teeth and a crooked smile
And a shadow I could not erase
Again a scream I could not shriek
A whispered "help me" made no sound
I could not awaken from my sleep
And there was no one else around
I now know why I dreamt of him
Because in my waking hours
A real man caused me so much harm
And my screams he would devour
I could not scream, I could not cry
I faced a real monster eye to eye
A vivid memory I won't forget
Was in my nightmares while I slept
