Water Cycle

I sit eating my pre-packaged breakfast

It is all I had time for

underneath a planted pine

beside a man-made waterfall

I forget I'm staring at concrete

as water whispers loud in my ears

I sip my soda

envious of the water flow

drinking leaf and sand

drinking itself

always drinking

always being swallowed

we confine it to a fountain

reduce, reuse, recycle they say

but reduce?

we pay a cost for water

out here in the west

I come from Michigan

Home of the Great Lakes

only now a relevant consideration

It's 15 minutes to class

as I contemplate poor choices
