Let the sun shine

Lighting bottle rockets
from
a bedroom window,
We launched our dreams into the sky

In those twilight hours of childhood
we could do
no wrong,
Nothing was impossible

What heights, did we hope
to reach,
As our rockets lifted upward
Popped,
and fell to earth

But we were young
and new,
and undaunted

Bulging at the seams
full tilt,
with wild dreams

Hoping to crack
that
vaulted canopy of heaven,

To bring some joy
to earth

And yet, the sun had shone
upon our faces,
Telling us – to go ahead

And go ahead

we did,
In those wild days of youth

Sliding down the stairs – full of dreams.

What an excellent evocation

What an excellent evocation of that segment of our many childhoods!

An old school friend got in

An old school friend got in touch with me, and wow the things you remember. How simple life was once upon a time. The days before the internet and mobile phones, when everyone played outside. I get nostalgic for those days. Who knew, we’d have this world we have now. And that the olden days, would be the golden days.
