Cancer

I stand before you

Open arms

My eyes shimmering like a portal through my soul

Mouth closed

I listen for the sorrow

I’m “only” here to make things better.

After I have heard what I wanted

I will show off my colors

Blue…. Black…. Red…. And purple

I will mimic the day, the night,

A little child?

Maybe a mother?

After I’ve stood at my podium

And preached what’s good in the eyes of my god!

It’s silence.

Nothing.

I look at you

You wear that smile so well

Now, turn and leave

Like all the others

I’ll be here next time

When it all happens again.

I can’t leave

I’ll sit here

I don’t know who will be next

But I will be here

Showing off my colors…

I’m “only” here to make things better.

Watch for my tears on the way out

Because I know you’ll be back

When the world doesn’t want you

I will always take you,

No questions asked…

I hope you love me…

The world isn’t ready for me.

So close the lid

I will see you soon!

Place me in my shelter

To be alone again

Thank you, and goodnight.

I like your style of writing Steve. I am impressed to say the least. Great poem.

I read most of your poems. Though I really liked "Godless" this is the one I could not help but comment on. It made me think and feel, it made me want to apologize, it made me want to feel sorry for myself. Thank You. Rachael
