I stare at the girl

I’ve known for so long

And she stares back

As she sings a sad song

Her eyes are bright

Filled with tears

Her heart is full

With memories of the years

A silence erupts

And I don’t know what to say

Because all I want

Is her sorrow to go away

I ask myself,

“Will this ever end?

Her loneliness cease?

Her broken heart mend?”

I begin to cry too

Because now I see

The reflection in the mirror

Is actually me
