Traveling down the trail of Time

A memory surfaces before my eyes.

Golden rays of the ageless sun

Penetrate my mind and soul.

Suddenly I am there,

Standing in my memory.

A cool breeze caresses my face,

Ruffling the tall grass around me.

The garden still grows-

Snow peas uneaten, raspberries unpicked.

The house still stands,

Golden as the buttercup.

Birch trees lie in wait,

Beyond the tick-ridden fields.

The orchard bears fruit once more,

Russet apples red, violet damson plums.

Pulling a luscious fruit from a bough,

And biting into t,

It fills my heart with delight.

The sun begins to set-

I know my time is done.

Returning to the present

Something crawls on my skin.

Plucking a solitary tick from my leg,

I smile with sadness, longing and hope.

For I danced, in a field of dreams,

I sang, beneath the apple trees,

I flew, with the wind at my back,

And I lived, in a world of memories.
