Sonnet On "Noli Me Tangere" [John 20:17]

Mary told John what Jesus said to her,
that morning in the garden, "Touch me not,"
having not yet ascended to the Father;
meaning that He would, soon enough, alot
time for the two of them (hearts' friends) to talk;
no need to fear, or doubt, or even worry
what anyone thought, or that it would bother
impetuous Peter. But, right now, hurry
to tell the others this good news. Nor walk,
but run to them as quickly as you can:
declare the Son of God and Son of Man
risen: the Lamb of God, once sacrificed
for man's sin, now the risen, regnant Christ,
Whose Gospel is salvific, real, and sure.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Line 5 follows the interpretation of the Anglican priest and scholar C.F.D. Moule.  Line 7 follows the Gnostic Gospel of Mary Magdalene in its assertion that Simon Peter was jealous of the time Jesus spent talking to Mary, although rebuked, by Levi (Matthew) for his petulance.
