Paths

There's a war inside my soul

That only one can win

My choice, so very crucial

Determines how I'll end

One path will offer pleasure

Beyond my wildest dreams

And little will I suspect

At its lying, hidden schemes

The other offers pain

And rejection all my days

But in the end is life

That'll never slip away

The first path, free and easy

With a gentle, downward slope

But will end quite abruptly

At the terminus of hope

The latter, hard but straight

It's uphill the whole time

But home is at the end

And makes it worth the climb

There's a war inside my soul

That only one can win

At the ending of my self

Is where my life begins
