Forget the Rest

If I'm not here tomorrow, remember me today.
I learned this lesson hard "don't wish your life away."

Because it soon ends in the blink of an eye,
But don;t be sad, don't waste your time and cry.

When you're leaking tears, wipe them away.
Know we will meet again someday.

When you're feeling angry, remember good things.
Like the sun rising, a rainbow sprouting, or when the birds sing.

When I say remember, I mean good.
Not my anger, or grief, remember how you should.

Remember my eyes, my jokes and my smile.
Those will stick with you for a longer while.

Remember our good days, forget the rest.
Don't blame yourself, you know you're the best.

Remember the situations we'd get into?
And the only thing I knew was that I loved you.

I'm passing this lesson on; now its you're test.
REmember all the good, forget the rest.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this as if my grandfather was narrating it actually; as if he were talking to me now. (He's dead.) But it also has another meaning personally, of me telling a certain person goodbye, I hope they remember me well.

Easier said than done at

Easier said than done at first. I mean at the initial stage of parting ways with a lover, one cant help remember all the pains and bad times attached to the separation. This poem seems a goodbye to me. It offers comfort and open friendship after all the tears. Sad thing is, human as we are, we tend to remember everything including the bad times. A relationship is reminisced for what it was like whether that relationship had more good than bad times, or the opposite.

Very well written. Thanks for sharing.

I understand your point, and

I understand your point, and you're right. This poem was a sad goodbye. It is hard to actually forget the bad times and only remember the good. My point was that when he thinks of me, I want him to remember me as a good thing, not a bad. I would rather it be a happy memory. When he thinks of me, I want him to smile, which implies him to think of the happy memories, not bad. Thank you for the comment and compliments though! I am glad to have feedback!

Yeah, it is ideal to remember

Yeah, it is ideal to remember the good times rather than the bad. The beauty with writing your own poetry is that you can write it the way you want. From what I see, you are young, forgiving, and idealistic. We need people like you too. I tried thinking of my past aches as I write and now that I have moved on, I do remember the good times mainly.

Poppy dear, maybe, just maybe, they are not allowing you to be at peace because you still matter to them. A special person like you is difficult to let go. I am saying that because at times ( not all the time, I find you breezy and funny in most times ), no matter how pissed off you are here in this site and penned profanities I don't speak, I still like talking to you because you matter. I sensed that behind the angry person is someone gentle and special just like the rainbow you wrote about. I mean that as a compliment.
