The little thief

“The little thief”

It was the beginning of times, all of the animals were created. There were oviparous and mammals of all kinds but there was a special creature, one that was completely naked with no skin color, nor feathers nor horns, anything. One day the creature was looking up in the sky as the birds were doing their morning routine; they flew up in the sky for hours without getting tired. So the creature thought:

“This is not fair; I have nothing that makes me special! They have feathers, they have colors! Some of them are blue some of them are yellow it’s not fair! I’m colorless”.

One night, when every animal on earth was asleep, the little creature not being able to sleep thought:

“Well! If I’m not able to have anything special for myself I’ll borrow something from everyone else, even if they don’t want to. I don’t care!”

And so he did, he quietly went were the birds were sleeping and started to pluck feathers from them, one of each color leaving all of the birds featherless. Then he went were the eagle was sleeping and he took its powerful sight leaving the poor eagle blind. Not satisfied he went were the cheetah was sleeping and he took away its speed and at last he went were the nightingale was sleeping and he took away its beautiful voice, leaving the nightingale silent.

The next morning, the sun rose and the animals were awake. They looked up and couldn’t help to notice that a beautiful creature was flying in the sky, it almost looked as if it was showing off.

“Look at those beautiful feathers! The birds said”.

“They are gorgeous! And listen to that chant; it’s even better than the nightingale’s. What is this creature that we’ve never seen before?”

“What are you looking at?”. The eagle asked. “I can’t see it! Wait a minute; I can’t see at all what happened to my sight?”

“Oh! I feel so tired!” Said the cheetah, “I can’t run! And why hasn’t the nightingale sang? I always hear it’s chant in the morning!”.

“Wait a minute! Those are our feathers! That creature stole them from us!”.

“Yeah and that is my sight!… And my speed! Now I’m as fast as a tortoise. And he also took away the nightingale´s voice, that little thief.”

The creature, not satisfied with what it had already stolen, blinded by his self-interest and his thirst for power, continued to steal every living thing’s most precious attribute. The world became

a dark, lonely place for everyone except for this extremely beautiful creature, but the beauty was so much that his body reached a point in wich he couldn’t handle that much energy, beauty and power, so he exploded and the explotion destroyed the world as we know it, all because of the selfishness and thirst for power of one “creature”.
