DSR Summar welcomes anecdotes illuminating the concept that animals are sentient beings that ought not to be harme:

all the dogs in Japan, England, US and all over who
keep lonely vigil for years after a human companion dies
or disappears.. and those who die by the graves of their
humans

 

and researcher Lilly reporting that when the Navy
researched dolphins.. (some were trained to be mine carriers, e.g.) some deliberately smashed their heads against
the walls of their confining pools.. and killed themselves..

 

or that researchers who inflict pain found that flies can
retain anger for at least 2 minutes after someone attempts
to smash them

 
A friend was in a college dorm with a large number of cockroaches..
His roommates found that when they were standing, cockroaches would
not come out but when they were seated on the commode, cockroaches
would come out, knowing it was less likely that weople would get up
suddently to squash them.
