ONE HAND CLAPPING

In Hindu India said Helen Blavatsky
the beetle bored bamboo .. a grove
60 ft. high.. became
a woodwind symphony in the wind.
Jewish Isaiah said that trees
clap in the wind.
Sometimes the answer to the Buddhist
koan What is the sound of 1 hand
clapping.. is silence
and sometimes
it is the kissing caress
as a tree branch
brushes an open window in a breeze.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poster was raised as a Catholic and attended Newman Club. Upon becoming a vegetarian I became more attracted to the countries such as India and Thailand which have a high percentage of people following nonviolent diet. I read the book Baba by Arnold Schulman and decided to go to India. There I became one of the over 100 million followers of Sai Baba and  experienced many miracles. There poster became acquainted with Catholic authors of books about Baba such as Father Mario Mazzoleni, Roman priest connected to Vatican, (now deceased), by Karen Fromer Blanc, Brooklyn nun, by Charles
DiFazio, Connecticut lawyer and graduate of a Jesuit school, by Victor
Kanu, African Christian, and others.

Last year  poster was given  a dream in which Baba walked
down the aisle of a Catholic church in Charlottesville
Virginia in the US and said "I and My Father are One" echoing the words of Christ about Abba. Poster felt 1 meaning
was the oneness of all religions, made up of children of the same Father.

In a weekly public prayer vigil for peace, poster began to meet
members of the Catholic Worker community
Poster began spending time with Dominicans, Franciscans,
members of Pax Christi and Catholic Worker and others who
were praying & fasting for peace in Iraq and the world, some with a 7 day
water fast, others with 40 day fast, still others with a constant fruit juice or liquid fast. Fasting and prayer
are a tradition in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism,
as well as Hinduism, Jainism, and some other paths.
These souls enfire other souls with their willingness
to put themselves in danger for God. One nun was
in El Salvador when the Cleveland nun was murdered
there. Sr. C who is in her 60's and came to this country from Ireland said that the army there believes
if you are working to help the poor you are a Communist.
Among them is a man who lived for a while as a monk
on Mount Athos in Greece whose passion to help the people of the street
is a fire which enkindles all. And from Annunciation is gentle P who says
when he dies he wants his body to go coffinless into Mother Earth, to feed and
become wildflowers. The St. Augustine Church in Cleveland
has turned a school into a sanctuary which welcomes travelers
involved in peace and abolition ministries.
Last night Swami showed me in a dream 2 souls:
1 was a nun who funded her prison ministry by
doing correspondence, accounting and legal work
for prisoners. She was hurt when one of the prisoners
said 'the man' (prison officials) was enforcing
her payment by the prisoners. The other was a priest
or brother who had promised himself to take his
vow of poverty one step further and 'live with
the poorest of the poor'.
Without possessions, he was living on a dirt floor in a basement.
Even more demanding is the Hindu sannyas vow for a true
sannyasi gives up all desire motivated action. It reminded me
of Om, the Smith college graduate who went to India to study
the natives and stayed to learn at their feet. She was living
on a dirt floor in a small room. Her last possession was an
address book which she threw away. Baba affectionately called
her 'Hysteria'. She said He would always see to it that she
ate.. whether materializing a 100 rupee note in the road for
her or causing an ashram visitor to hand her meal tickets
or having her come by a ripe mango laden tree.
When someone once asked Baba if he should become a sannyasi
Baba replied, "If you wanted to you would have done so by now".

Father Mother God, Summoned by All Names, Indweller of All Hearts, thank You for helping
all Your creature pilgrims on the path today.. and forever
.. with joy, miracles, peace, love, nonviolence
Thank You for what seems to be a mIRAQcle in IRAQ
Thank You for preventing any world leaders or any other being
from harming another.

Abba, in the name of Jesus Christ, You know that I am far from the vow to live with the poorest of the poor .. let alone the sannyasi vow of giving up any action motivated by desire (such as the
desire to take a bath) but I ask Your grace to take steps today as a pilgrim
on the road toward desire only for God.
