NO BRIGHT LIGHT FRIGHT

When he visited his friends
in Manhattan (everyone has
cockroaches there)
he would not at midnight
snap on the light
for he did not like
to cause bright light fright
to these gentle
creatures of the night
.. and so he
would wait
for the pinking dawn

SANTA

God put out the fires
in her hearth
that he might send Santa
down her chimney with gifts..
gifts of increased independence,
strength, Godpointedness.
Now he has rekindled
the flames..
a special holy nonviolent
purple fire
invulnerable to
earthly rain..

RAGING RIVER

When the raging river over the banks runs awry
she rallies the raspberries... and the rye.*

POISONED GOBLET

Blooms bask in the sunup
but insecticides turn buttercups
into poisoned goblets
scotching
bees who come to sup
Corporate behemoths
kill the bees and fireflies
and apple moths.

HEALING WATERS

Water is One but it has ten thousand
sounds and myriad names.
Whether the pool is crescent formed
or square,
cross-shaped or spherical,
the water inside it cleanses, heals, quietens,
grows trees, quenches thirst, reflects the stars
and transmits miracles.
From the angel-stirred waters of
the Pool of Bethesda and the
moonlit pools of mosques
to the pools in which church
fountain waters gather,
healing is everywhere
but most of all in
the waters of love
active or dormant in the
hearts of all beings.

CAPTURED DEW

In Mother Trees
dripping rainwaters
swell pink peach
and gold pear daughters.
Over there the
cloud drops plump
  orange pumpkins
and purple plums

ELEMENTS OF FORGIVENESS

Crime scene tape is blown away
by the wind.
Thieves' footprints in the snow
melt in the morning sun.
Mother Earth rusts away
incriminating metal evidence.
Blood in the rivers flows
   to the obscuring seas.
The Indweller God in each being
   whispers: forgive and release.

UPWINGING

Now dry are
newborn wings
oer the brook
which flows and sings
oer cherryleaf chimes
which winds do ring
oer the black crows'
cornstalk swings
until iceweight
of all past hate
and memory of
each past sting
melts in soul's
upwelling springs.

MANGO MANNA
Manifold mangos
manifest as modern manna

CHAMBERED NAUTILUS

The little being who
in the chambered nautilus dwells
finds that his home
has become a confining hell
and so he simply adds on
a more spacious
pearly home shell

EVICTED:

in New York, evicted from the body, as death comes
  to the homeless who freeze
in Afghanistan and Iraq by bombs
  or evicted from the body itself by bunker busters
in Palestine by bulldozers
in Canada flightless baby birds evicted by the
  chain saws of newsprint companies
   whose crushed pulp is bound for pro war newspapers
in San Francisco evicted by greedy landlords
in Louisiana by weather machine manipulated hurricanes
in Central America by deforestation generated mudslides
in China by earthquakes
in Oklahoma by tornadoes which come to cattle abusing states

Lay by the far bridge
many a spent cartridge
many birds killed that day
but alive neath the star ridge
the pear tree's partridge.

loves the woods
.. the greenleaf pools
.. his billionaire and centimillionaire
friends can afford private green
spots..
While he seeks these private
green spots.. his policies around the world cause green spots to shrink
