METAMORPHOSIS
--------------------------------------------------------------------

BILLOW PILLOW

How the lapping
wave billow
becomes green
lace in the willow
.. and at his
roots
for frogs
.. a soft pillow

WATER FORMS

Water woven into clouds
Water frozen into ice
Water heated into steam
Water flowing as a river
Water waving as the sea
Water placid in the pond
Water
that water spiders
may paddle
in the puddle
Water as cider
in the apple tree
Water as coconut milk
in the palm

BLACKBERRY BLOOMS

The rainbow green arc
with white blossoms laced
will become
the dark sweet
fruit of blackberry

The worm will
be
a butterfly

LIGHTLINED

In the prided wood, the
Lord of Luminescence
gives to each fruit
a dewy tumescence
and with light each lemon
limns
and with love each lime
She lines.
****

(to E P Wood who for
several decades bought and prepared food
to serve several hundred outpatients
of St. Elizabeth's vegan meals.)

TRANSFORMING VENTRILOQUISTS

God can sever
money's ventriloquists
from unelected judge
William Rehnquist

God can turn
those with clenched fists
into
peacemakers and pacifists

God can end
the psychiatrist's
prevaricating
unfaithful trysts

God, Divine
Love's alchemist
can reform
the bigamist

WIND ARTIST

The wind has blown
away the cloud cover
and turned the pond's
reflection
from grey to blue clover

1942 HORSES

Horses with
raw powerful motion
gallop through
the waves
to shore from the ocean.

Out of the sea of
suffering
of World War 2
are reborn
free souls
in 1942.

(to all those born in 1942..
to Erica Jong and her grandfather
whose huge mural painted this
theme.. and to Jim Warren
of jimwarren.com who has
painted horses in water.)

SUBLIME LIMES

How awestriking
How sublime
that out of slime
God makes lemons
and God makes limes

BLACKBERRY BLOOMS

The rainbow green arc
with white blossoms laced
will become
the dark sweet
fruit of blackberry

The worm will
be
a butterfly

**
When as a child
I ate animals
I was an
unconscious cannibal

PICASSO'S DOODLES

One might accuse
Picasso of counterfeiting..
that his doodles could
turn a napkin
into a gold certificate
His pen contained King Midas' ink.
All emeralds are ephemeral
Vision is eternal

UNNECESSARY COCOON

My cocoon is woven
of threads of desire
but the butterfly
breaks
forth to sunfire
..
leaving cocoon
departing the room
rising from womb
rising from tomb

GRAPEVINE KNITTING KNOTS

The grape vine
did entwine
and spiral oer
the high clothesvine
.. and turned
it into a trellis
knitting knots from
divine fire

(to N A L)

UXORIOUS

The woman exec who
took 12 vacations
alone because her
husband could not
provide his own fare..

had sought for herself
ways luxurious
.. hers was not the
standard path uxorious

but illumination
eventually comes
to all..
she had an abrupt
change and began
making multiplied
amends

SPACEFRAMED

Perhaps anger like A. Lindbergh's beauty
.. must be spaceframed

and in its silence.. one dips
the pen of detachment
into pain's inkwell
as clarity begins.. to upwell

Author's Notes/Comments:

Anne Morrow Lindbergh
wrote after the kidnapping and death of her baby boy.. perhaps in Gift
Of The Sea
that beauty is framed
in space.
