+ 1ST ORTHODOX POEMS: Sonnet Written While Listening To Saint Isaac The Syrian's Homily On Humility

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for having chosen me

to bear this affliction that, medically,

burdens my life:  it is not so terribly

oppressive, and it teaches humility

to my soul, and magnifies my need for You

(and not for what the world can offer or do).

This crippler is not a punitive sentence,

but, rather, a reminder that my repentance

must daily, hourly, rise to Your Throne of Grace.

Christ my God, make it a sacrifice of praise

for all the enjoyment of real Salvation

which, in Orthodox Faith's delectation,

is (I mean, always for all eternity)

my redeemed soul's supremist exultation.
