+ 1ST ORTHODOX POEMS: For The Holy, Glorious And All-Laudable Apostle And Evangelist Matthew

Into your soul's barren and lightless sky,

the Bright and Morning Star rose into it.

Thus illuminated, you abandoned the benches of

Caesar's receipts of custom, with records of indebtedness.

Summoned to the circle of the Apostolic Twelve

(which the evil one's own had infiltrated),

your life's remainder was spent in the service of

Jesus, Christ and God, Lover of mankind and of our souls;

and no longer the imperial propieties of Rome

administered locally by Pontius Pilate.

Januarian

Author's Notes/Comments:

Revelation 22:16, Matthew 9:9, John 6:70-71, Titus 2:13.

The concept described in the eighth line, the philanthropia of God, was asserted by the Prophet Saint Jeremiah, 31:3, and further expanded by Origen of Alexandria.
