@ 27.055 MHz: Ad Astra; Two Young Men In Certain Vintage (Mid-Nineteenth Century) Photographs

[inspired by Constantine Cavafy's Poems]

Scholars have dated the small collection of photographs to the

earliest era of photography as an art form.  Techniques and

effects, that we do not even notice in the media deluge that

constantly assails us, were not even known or imagined at that

time.  The depiction of Homosexual Beauty needs nothing more---

despite the vociferous ferocity of old prudes and haters---

it offers itself as a sufficiency, like a star in the sky:

perhaps Theta Aquilae?  Each photograph depicts the two

young men, both shamelessly naked, in a brief variety of

poses, beginning with the gaze into each other's eyes; then the

sensual contact of various touches---their hands, their

feet, and their engorgements (perhaps the very first

documentation of frottage).  Viewers turn from the

collection with the desire to see more, and the regret that

more could not have been provided.  Obviously, the young

men delighted in each other's presence and in the adolescent

sensuality of nakedness, without the least inhibitions of

shame and guilt that society---either openly or, as now, tacitly---

imposes upon those who love according to their souls'

given natures.
