Swinging from Chandeliers

You assumed the role of sole custodian,

The only who could grant me entry.

I responded like a nickelodeon

With answers wholly elementary.

It once was music to my ears,

But now I hear it not -

I'm swinging from these chandeliers

As you peer through the slot.

It all comes down to what I have known for years

And ranking it high above you.

As I swing back and forth from these chandeliers

How again could I misconstrue?

No, not even you hold an exclusive key.

Others may clamor about for a carbon copy,

But I have good reason to feel differently

Having long made these premises cluttered and sloppy.

I've champagne to uncork and cake to be eaten,

Delicious passages to new frontiers.

After most of your lot are tired and beaten

I'll still be swinging, swinging from chandeliers.

What is the 'swinging from

What is the 'swinging from chandeliers' symbolic of? I think I'd like it more if I understood. But I guess maybe it isn't meant to be (or not?...:-).

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Hi there. Thanks for reading.

Hi there. Thanks for reading. I think in your subconscious you probably understand it - I don't really write heady poems. I just try to write fun ones. I hate to overintellectualize even explain them at all, because it's usually reductive, either with my work or anyone else's, but I will say that you could compare it to be being free, having a ball, trying on outfits at a department store willy nilly, throwing care to the wind. On some level it's about having a party in the imaginary world and cutting loose. You don't need somebody to show you how to do that if you have an imagination to begin with.

Ok...yes, that is what I was

Ok...yes, that is what I was thinking it meant, but wasn't sure. I had never heard that expression before. I quite like it! (although the actual act doesn't appeal much to anymore--Wink). Similar to 'painting the town red'.
