Walk Me Home

Walk Me Home

If it could be bottled I’d drink sunshine

To center my focus on what I should.

I’d say what’s mine is yours and yours is mine

And quench my longing for the greater good.

But this is not a rosy complexion -

Up against it is where shadows fall.

I’m bruised by the sting of their objection

And ask myself why I bother at all.

Still, there are sometimes stars that guide the way

And I’m grateful for each of them today.

It doesn’t matter now who’s in the stands

Because I know you’re there to have my back.

I can bring what the arena demands

And come out swinging against any attack.

The sharp hook of cruelty may have left its mark -

I’ve danced with evil and been worse for the wear -

But I finally hold a spark to pierce the dark

Because you’ve made the burdens lighter to bear.

I’ve learned even in darkness the future looks bright

As long as I have you to walk me home tonight.
