Chasing the shadows of your mind
Not too near, yet not too far behind
I hear your whispers echo in the shadows of mine

You feel that?
That bumping
Thumping
Scratching
Clawing at your mind
That's me
That's a memory trying to break free

It's your craigslist ad at 3 AM
Begging me to come back home again
It's a broken-hearted cry
Pleading for more time
It's a prayer in the night
Calling out in hopes to find
A chance to make the past revive

Do you feel it now?
That burning
Yearning
Seething
Screaming in your mind
That's us
That's the heart reaching out for love

So while we chase the shadows in sight
Not too near, yet not to far behind
Hear the whispers echo in your mind

Do you feel it yet?
Can you feel me reaching out?
Do you know, that I still want you here with me?
That I want you to be
More than just another memory

Come here and sit with me
And lets talk of all we are and can never be
Let's talk about love that always goes away
And how nothing seems to keep the insecurities at bay
Of how nothing at the time could make us stay
Maybe we were too young in a place where grown-ups live
But even they forget to share and give

Now, we're chasing shadows in our minds

What we had together, and what we left behind

Sometimes, I wish that things would never change
Despite everything that gets in the way
Because you can never look behind
Without wasting moments of your life
