Through the Looking Glass (Her Name is Alice)

("If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense")
("Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't")

In your wonderland you dream to chase against the sky
And in this situation you share knowledge with your rhymes
I stand upon the cliff to fall into your sacred mind
To feed imagination with the essence of my style

I invite you to a world where there is no such thing as time
And every creature lends themselves to change your state of mind
And the girl that chased the rabbit, drank the wine, and took the pill
Has locked herself in limbo to see how it truly feels

And when you rise out from the madness to the shelters of your pride
You'll see the world is ever changing while you're locked on the inside
You wonder where the world would be and what it all implies
You stare a hole into the embers til the fires start to rise

Sometimes the curiosity can kill the soul but leave the pain
And every ounce of innocence is left inside her brain
And through the looking glass we see she's painfully returned
But now off with her head I fear is everyone's concern

Once the pain has seen its last and you have flown up to the heights
You'll see the only cure for sadness is the hope you hold inside
And if you drown amidst the memories, your soul could surely die
So take your chance and live in harmony and let the past subside

You see there's no real ending
It's only the beginning
Come out and play

She's unlocked the meaning for you

Oh, in this wonderland your heart lies with a shutter in the smolder
With the Cheshire Cat and madman's hat you see the dark roll over
With the light that shines and blocks the wrath the queen keeps on her shoulder
The imagination finds its reach to grasp on and to hold her

To stand outside your virtue
No one can ever hurt you
Or so they say

("And contrariwise, what it is it wouldn't be")
("And what it wouldn't be it would")
("You see?")

Always happy

To offer a rabbit hole, B. Thank you for reading.

This is actually Ashes' world down that rabbit hole, blended with a favorite song of mine.

WHAT!?!

a world where there is no such thing as time? Roc you've been holding out on me! jks

so many lines where to start? really liked the 'pride/inside' bit, just kind of rolls off the mind like rap but with something important to say...

I also like how its like two poems co-existing in the same space as one but also two

Much Love

Ashley

Technically

It's two separate entities occupying a singular space.
Shinedown's theme song for the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland blended with my own ramblings from a conversation with Ashes about 2 years ago.
The lyrics I wrote were in an attempt to follow the flow and melody of the song posted with it...verses only, not the chorus.

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
