Invasion of My Dreams

So last night, as I was soundly sleeping
An epic invasion took place in my dream
Remnants of forgotten yesterdays
Melded with some all too familiar scenes
Parts of my present, blended with the past
The best of now, and the worst I've had
Mixed with onlookers and helping hands
Anger, and rage, and love, and confusion
Ending with four people in a stand
The present touch and the past contusions

----As if I haven't clouded up the image of this scene
I'll explain now, in detail, the presence of this dream
But first, before I divulge a single thing
A little backstory, building to what woke me this morning----

A few years past, six to be real close
I ended something that wouldn't break its hold
A failure of a mistake, that I myself had known
And a dawning of a new beginning from the fold

Broken, I had been, from the memories intwined
Starvation from relation, my only peace of mind
And invader, always seeping into my sanctity
That wretched ex who always crawls into my dreams

Then, not two days ago, I realized the change
That everything in life just let to that very day
A journey into madness, a trip through the unknown
A discovery that sadness, was a waste of my own hope
And in a moment of the purest clarity
I discovered what I want is more than I have ever dreamed
I fell in love in a moment, and I am not ashamed
Because I love the perfect woman, after years hidden away

And last night, shortly after the midnight chimed
A storm brewed crashed down on this town of mine
The rains passed through this land, with the thunder in its wake
And the winds howled, somehow begging for the change

And there I am, lying somewhere in a dream
When a brush from the past came face to face with me
Someone, who for more than a decade, I've not seen
Suddenly arrived in hopes of us conversing
Busy, though I was, I had something important to get to
I was just stopping for coffee, my love awaited my return
And as much as I would have loved to catch up and review
I needed to get home so I could be with her

The store was infested, insects everywhere
I put down the empty cup, and in seconds they were there
I was so sickened by the scene, that I just up and went
Returned back to the place, my love was waiting in

Arriving to a commotion, of which I knew naught about
My best friend and hers, were waiting in the house
Angry looks and stares all glared at me
When my best friend said "I think that you should leave"
He tried to usher me away as quickly as could be
But I was home, and wasn't going to be leaving
My love was there with her best friend, eyes planted on me
When a crash of an invasion settled in my dream
That wretched past mistake came back trying to haunt me
She tried for sweet and innocent, that which I couldn't see

----Some dialog from what went down inside the dream----
"What the hell is she doing here?" I asked my best friend angrily.
"What the hell is she doing here?" My love was questioning
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Her best friend scolded me
"I tried to get you away," my best friend was saying
"I just came to see you" that wretched ex released
"I still love you," she tried to said so innocently
"Well, you can go now," is all I could reply
"I love her," I said pointing to the woman always on my mind

A loud crash, something the storm outside released
Shuddered through my being, waking me from the dream
The pouring rain was screaming, and the air was lit with pleas
The realization that finally came over me
Was that the past is now, nothing but a memory
And from all its sad excuses, I have no become free
To be happy with the one in whom I place all my belief
The woman that all my love is given to freely
No more looking to the past for signs of grief
No more comparisons to all that lies beneath
The ground that has be trodden by these feet
No, my heart, my soul, my love, belongs in her heartbeat

----There's a moral to this story, as with all the fables writ
Do not chase the memories, in the past is where they sit
Love is like an anchor, with the soul tethered to it
To hold you where you belong so you won't be set adrift----
