It only matters when it matters
It's only current when it's used
In my opinion of the minions
The world is broken from abuse

It only matters when it's spoken
It's only useful if it's truth
In my opinion it's all broken
And we're all choking on the views

Somewhere we lost the hope of meaning
When it all became unglued
The lack of hope that's been demeaning
Is all we have to hold onto

But, there's a lesson to be learned
And there's a truth that can be earned
Through this we're all becoming burned
By what's said with every spoken word
What's meant is rarely what's perceived
And it's perception that feeds reality
And the purest of intentions can be construed so easily
While the phoniest emotions make the masses all believe
In darkness at the gates, enemies inside
With fear they can control our fragile lives
What better way to make them what we need
Than by giving us the reasons why we need protecting

It only matters when we believe
It's only current when it can be perceived
It's epidemic how we've all fallen to our knees

We only matter when they want it
We're only valued when we give in
To what they tell us that we need
