I think it was Rousseau who said
people will gladly give up their freedoms
In order to feel safety and security within society
I worry sometimes that he’s talking about us
There’re laws passed everyday
Laws that permit policemen to point cameras into cars to make sure we don’t text
Laws that make certain substances illegal, and others legal
“WE HAVE TO PROTECT SOCIETY!”
They tell us with a small army, and body armor
But in reality all they do is spread fear
The fear that is so necessary for them to stay employed
For their rules to stay necessary
They scare the weak, and the foolish into allowing them into our lives
People ask “How dare you question our freedom, when there are soldiers fighting to preserve it.”
But is that really what they fight for? Freedom?
Last time I checked, there’s plenty of freedom to go around
After when’s the last time that anyone actually threatened to take away our freedom?
But what they’re really doing is slowly taking it away
They make things like marijuana illegal
And set arbitrary ages that you must reach before you can drink
“ANYONE WHO DRINKS UNDER THE AGE OF 21 IS A MENACE TO SOCIETY!”
“MARIJUANA IS THE SMOKE OF THE DEVIL!”
“IF YOU DRIVE FASTER THAN 65 MILES PER HOUR YOU’RE ENDANGERING EVERYONE”
“CHILDREN WORKING?!!?! NOT IN MY COUNTRY!”
All of these things that were 100% acceptable in the past
All outlawed
To preserve our freedom
And protect the people
But I fear danger,
I fear a society with no freedom
And no safety
A society where the government controls everything
What we eat, what we drink, where we go
And lastly, whether or not we live
I fear a society where to protect the masses
“wrongdoers” are executed
And rules are made so strict that no one can follow them
In this society,
1% of the current population survives
They are all white
All blonde
All exactly 6’2
And they all only do what they are told
They are all minions
That is what I fear.
