Caring for Felines

'Tis early morning,

all is still and sleeping.

I rise,put the coffee on,

do my thing and then...

my days has begun.

One by one,they slowly wake.

I sit still and in silence.

I am watching the corner

of the room. This is were she beds,

and nothing disturbs her 'til she wakes.

High atop the bookcase,he is perched.

His choice of bed, since birth.

He is King and she Queen.

There's no telling them different.

He begins to twitch, but will not rise yet.

On cue,she slowly opens one eye, then the other.

She stretches then recoils into a position

to set her on her feet. She glances around

the room assuring herself that all is

in its proper place.

He's alert now, watching her closely.

His tail begins a slow wagging ritual.

His eyes are opened wide and fixed on her.

He dare not blink at this time,'till he

gets the okay from her majesty .

She slinks 'cross the room with ease,

stopping in front of the floor-length mirror.

She preens her face with her front right paw,

and when she is finished  she positions her

tail up and over her body, reaching her forehead.

He,on the other hand, slowly comes down from

his perch,cautiously approaching her,He cannot

depict her odor, nor the signal to say she wants

him near,so he turns opposite and heads

toward the kitchen, for his breakfast.

She,in turn, now waits and watches him and

when she is satisfied that he is ignoring her,

she then enters into the kitchen for her ort.

When both are sated, they do their business,

only one at a time, after which...

They begin to enjoy each others company, fun,

games, sharing toys and taking turns

fetching things. They sit out on the patio and watch

the world about them. Communicating in their own way.

When day is done, they each go their own way to bed.
