"Manic Hibernation"

by Jeph Johnson

Our brief interaction
Was completely distracting
The kind of look that's deeper than a touch...
Needles pricked inside me
As she transfixed my psyche
With the sort of hook that reels in way too much...
Time froze to surround us
As the night closed in around us
With the kind of darkness where the only light
Shines aquamarine
This time more than green
And illuminates so much more than bright
It was her eyes you see
Looking back at me
Making me recoil my expectations
Her eyes then gently closed
And time thawed from its cold
As my mind awoke from manic hibernation.
