"Privilege"

by Jeph Johnson

Before any wrongdoing is contemplated or committed
Sweeping generalizations shame good people with
Passive-aggressive guilt every hour on the hour

Teetering on the fulcrum, disrupting the balance
Crowning condemnation upon an individual head
For having privilege and power

It seems no different than Christianity's
"Born a sinner" philosophy:
You have no choice, you have to have Jesus

Born straight, white and male...and privileged:
So your opinion doesn't count
You have no voice, so nothing frees us

Well some of us are powerless in our privilege
Life's complexities ensures no absolute
Some of us want to appease

Many of us want to remove the green jacket
Shed our cloak of invincibility to fit in
Give us that opportunity, please
