Mommy

2001 Poetry

Mommy, Mommy,

where could she be?

She should be sitting,

right here with me.

~

All Daddy does,

is cry all day long.

Locked in his room,

He won't tell me what's wrong.

~

Where have you gone Mommy?

Cause I miss you so.

You said you'd always be here,

but where did you go?

~

All I remember,

is you got in your car.

But you didn't come back,

and Daddy says you went far.

~

So far away,

that we can't even visit.

He said you went to Heaven,

but Mommy where is it?

~

I want to see you Mommy.

Want you to wrap me in your love.

But Daddy said you can't cause you're an Angel,

resting on the clouds above.

~

A bad man took you away Mommy.

Daddy told me so,

and the bad man drank to much,

thought he could drive, but no.

~

Why did you die Mommy?

Why couldn't you stay?

Daddy said I wouldn't understand now,

but I will someday.

~

I want to understand now Mommy.

I want you here with me.

But Daddy says a memory,

is all that you can be.

~

Today we looked at pictures Mommy,

and it made Daddy smile.

I asked him when I'll see you again,

and he said not for a while.

~

So I guess I'll just wait,

Daddy said that's what to do.

I hope you hear me Mommy,

when I say that I love you.

~

This message was sent,

from a girl just five.

A sad, yet true reminder,

not to drink and drive.

~

This man drank too much,

and got into his car.

He drove out of the parking lot,

but didn't get far.

~

He pulled into the intersection,

and hit her fast head on.

But when the paramedics got there,

she was already gone.

~

The sirens sang their melodies,

of the tragic events that night.

And the drunken man had no worries,

and the ambulance pulled out of sight.

~

He had not a bruise,

nor scratch, nor scar.

But didn't realize he took a life,

as he pulled away from the bar.

~

Not just a life,

but a little girls mother.

And also the life of

this little girl's unborn brother.

~

A mother, a sister,

a daughter, a wife.

A brother, a son,

an un-lived life.

~

That's what was taken,

since he chose to drink and drive.

Maybe if he hadn't,

they'd still be alive.

~

Life in prison,

is what he'll get.

And this incident is one,

that he'll never forget.

~

For pain and sorrow,

will fill his heart.

Knowing that this preventable act,

tore a family apart.

~

For the people who read this,

no matter how much you thrive,

put down the keys,

and don't drink and drive.

Jill,
I am so sorry for your lost. I really wouldn't know what to do if I lost my mother. My mother means everything to me. Maybe I said show this poem to my dad and let him read it and maybe it will click to him not to drink and drive. Your poem really touched me. It is one of the best poems I have read. Keep up the good work.

Jill,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how devastated you are / were. I run these calls and thats what is really hard is the crap that these idoits put a family through.
Keep up the good work! I hope it helps you by putting the words to paper; it sure helps me when I do.

WOW!!! I love this poem. It's a good message for all the people who choose to drink and drive because they never know what will happen when they get behind the wheel.

I think this is one of my favorite poems because I know first hand how drinking and driving only causes pain.
