Her Thoughts

She holds the knife to her chest and contemplates what she's about to do.
Thoughts race through her head uncontrollably.
Her eyes burn from hours of crying.
She trembles as another tear rolls down her face.
She can see him in her mind.
He hits her, and she can feel the pain on her cheek.
Her mind is racing.
Everything is cluttered.
She can remember the good times when he would smile and kiss her,
But the memories of his hitting and chocking her out-weigh them.
She can see everything.
She can feel everything.
She remembers the heart ache he made her feel.
Sometimes the heart ache was worse than the abuse.
No one knew about the times he hurt her.
They wouldn't have believed her any way.
She remembers one final hit,
And with that hit, she is brought back to reality.
She stops shaking and reassures herself.
She takes one final breath.
As she exhales, she slides the knife into her already broken heart,
And with her final words she whispers, "I will always love you."
