‘Twas The Night

‘Twas The Night

‘Twas the night before Christmas,

And all through her thoughts,

Were her memories of pain,

And what she’d been taught.

All the hits and the screams.

All the tormenting lies.

She sees his anger.

He laughs while she cries.

He pulls back to hit her for the very last time.

This time she hears a siren, low then loud.

She hears the people’s terrified words.

She opens her eyes and sees a tear-stained crowd.

This time she realizes it.

She knows it was true.

He tried to kill her.

Now she knows that they’re through.
