Red Skies

Folder:
2009 Poetry

Deep red sunrise far off over the sea,

forever seen by sailors on early watch.

Is not a vision wanted by a crew,

for it tells of storms blowing yet to come.

Before the days of weathermen and like,

only such signs would foretell of these things.

Simple sightings like seagulls in their flight,

could give a glimpse of what was yet to be.

Just small little things we were taught back then,

which I am sure are not told of anymore.

Though the first was turned into a little rhyme,

I learned years ago as a little boy.

Red sky at night is a sailor’s delight.

Red sky in morning, sailor’s take warning.
