The Proposal

2002 Poetry

The night was cool and we went out to dine

This was the night I would ask her to be mine

Everything was planned so it would be just right

I knew how she’d answer, the future was bright

The restaurant was perfect with staff in the plot

The ring in my pocket, there’s nothing I forgot

Dinner was superb with lots of romance

Her beauty so great she had me in a trance

The champagne was chilled and a rose on the table

Everything looked like it was right out of a fable

The time was now and my eyes opened wide

I held her hand and asked her to be my bride

She smiled at me with true love in her eyes

Her feelings for me she could not disguise

"Yes", she said, "you will always be mine"

"Our love and our life would always combine"

I can’t describe the feeling within me

But our future was there for me to foresee

Living our lives together as one

With a new journey for us that had just begun
