Bethany's Sleep

6-25-03

Dedicated to: Bethany

I sit beside you

Watching silently

I wonder if you know

In your sleep you look

Almost innocent

Almost kind

Almost pretty on the inside

Almost like a friend

Looks so familiar

Like the first time

I saw you

Smiling, laughing,

The only one to accept me

I was younger, more naive

I'm still naive

I'm still young

Look at you!

Look where your lies

Have brought you!

Look at all the

Blackness

Behind your eyelids!

Does it haunt you

In your sleep?

I can change that

I can be a friend

You don't understand

Quite how

That's fine

I can be your dictionary

Did you know?

You look so much

Like the facade

You dropped and broke

All those years ago

Author's Notes/Comments:

For a friend who used to be someone special- but changed into someone else along the way.

Hey... I can relate. Good one.

Is this the same Bethany that is your (X) friend? It's kind of cool to see moods change within a single poem. Good job on this one.
