Manila Movie Madness

Manila Movie Madness

Clark Steven Lupton

2004

So you buy your tickets

After getting in line

You rushed through the mall

To get there on time

You love to go to the movies

You think they're really neat

You hope to get there early

And get a good seat

I too really love the movies

But I will sometimes complain and rant

That some things can get out of hand

Like at Glorietta or Power Plant

I admit they're cool, clean and comfortable

They sell soda, iced tea and food

But some moviegoers can be annoying

And really downright rude

First some don't mute their cell phones

Maybe they don't care

And if that isn't rude enough

Someone's kicking the back of your chair

In any movie you watch

You will always hear beep beep

Whether the cinema is expensive

Or especially if it's cheap

It doesn't matter that they forget

Because there's a reminder before the start

It is sometimes brought to us by Globe

Or if not, from Smart

The reason for the noise is quite simple

It is not at all complex

They want to receive phone calls during the movie

And continue getting texts

You'll often hear people talking in the movie

To each other, or cell phone chatter

They figure no one minds

And to them they don't matter

Then a cell phone rings loudly

She's an idiot I would assume

Because if they have to talk

Why won't she just leave the room?

Meanwhile there are the talkers

With their companions that they depend upon

To discuss their comments loudly

And to ask, "What's going on?"

Eventually someone crosses his legs and kicks your seat

Be patient and count to ten

Try not to get too mad so soon

Unless he keeps doing it over again

So be polite to these kinds of people

And kindly ask them to stop

Because these may be inconsiderate people

And their brain cells will probably pop

And if you're a lady, alone

Watch the men around you

Maybe they will be perverts

And will shock and astound you

And in Makati there will be senior citizen men in there for free

And if the movie gets boring

They will fall fast asleep

And disturb you with their snoring

And then there are the little kids

Who cry and make annoying noise

Leave them at home with their yaya

And they can play with toys

We go to the movies to relax

That's something we all know

We don't go to talk, text or kick seats

We go to enjoy the show

So please behave in the movie house

Whether you paid full price, or for free

The person next to you will be grateful

Who knows? That may be me.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This crap that goes on in Manila movie theaters can really piss me off. Then one day the bubble burst and we got into a confrontation with two ladies who would not stop talking. So I went home and made this poem as my outlet for my movie frustrations that have been piling up over the years.
