FREE, AFTER ALL!

FREE, AFTER ALL!

(IN DEPENDENCE TO INDEPENDENCE!)

‘No more fight and no more partition!’

Feel proud to be an Indian!

In dependence over two and a half centuries;

Suppressed and oppressed by the foreigners,

Indians thought of reviving its independence,

But lay calm like a volcano that was to erupt!

Great leaders arose from far flung areas,

Still it took quite long, to gain a kick start;

Egos, religion, caste and creed within our own men,

Were the odds the leaders had to fight against!

Yet, they could put all their differences in the back burner,

As they placed ‘Indian Independence’ high above all;

Gandhi, the man, they found as a selfless leader;

So simple and humble; and had no other agenda.

A puny person though, but with a great heart and a crowd puller;

He just thought, freedom at any cost was his sole aim!

Nehru, Azad, Patel, Ginna and all other leaders,

Found Gandhi the man who could unite all Indians!

No time they spared to join hands, forgetting their families;

Police arrests, physical injuries and jail terms, they cared two hoots!

The massacre of innocent Indians at Jaliyanwallahbagh and Salt Satyagraha;

Didn’t dampen their spirit despite the hanging of Indians from Kashmir to Comorin!

That was all that the British could do to stop the Indians, dead on track;

They never thought that they would get a rude shock;

As they encountered ‘The Ahimsa Force’, even bullets couldn’t stop!

Shell shocked and shattered, they gave ‘Freedom’ a second thought!

The Indian Independence declared on the midnight of 14th August, 1947;

Made the Indians rejoice despite the cost of so many lives!

Alas!  India got divided despite all odds!  Nothing stopping it!

Nevertheless, we deserve to shout out ‘We are Free’!

We are free from the Europeans, but not from a few neighbors and economy;

After all, we could bite the bullets and win such, big battles,

We pledge to fight our financial crisis and the neighboring perpetrators;

Even with bullet ridden bodies, to save the hard earned freedom!

We are proud to shout out ‘We are one’! - To build the nation

We are ready to say ‘We have Unity in Diversity’! - So we smile

We love to declare, ‘We are Secular’! - ‘Coz it binds us;

There is no more fight; and no more partition, what so ever!

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Nightlight,

I find you to be quite different from the normal ones as you have the capacity to appreciate the freedom and independence of others too.  Kuddoos!  I thought, only Indians on postpoem would have interest in reading my poem 'Free, After All!, but you too have read and appreciated it.  Great heart! Thanks.  I welcome your Universalism!

Indian Independence

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY .... JAI HIND .. AI MAA TUJHE SALAAM

An excellent write for the Gennext

Sometimes I wonder how it was

for a young hubby to be shot dead

His widow and kid crying their hearts out

1001 political parties!Is this independence all about?

Yet I dream for a Golden Age to resurface

when all the  barriers would cease to entice

My dear Respected Ben Sir what is our role?

Mere penning words ..will it suffice ?

In the city where I now live..some  have pet dogs.They poo on the streets and litter.These same people's Gennext when they keep pet dogs in other developed countries carry poo bags and shovels !!!! We ,here, are FREE Sir.Where do we deface/dirty? It's our land after all. Another thing, how could a person expect greasing of palm ? Many ills exist even after 67 years of independence.Let us think for the next generation who (I'm hopeful) see better days and contribute to purging the Indian society of its ills.BTW I still enjoy throwing spinach cans out of my window. I'm Free bishu in a Free country after all. Another point Sir.When will we stop plastic??When can we see more green?? !! When will we stop aping the West? Let us hope & pray Sir Ben.Sorry for writing so much silly nonsense. ~ B Happy~ ~ God Bless~

Mr.  Bishu,

You are much more than what I am as your patriotic thoughts are deeply rooted in you like Tagore.  Your thought about handing over the next generation a polution free land is quite welcome.  All that you have said happen in our streets too.  We got to stop it at one stage or other!  Thanks for your comment and your prompt.
