M'SIEUR PAPILLON (MR. BUTTERFLY)

JOURNAL # 41

a maze of such beautiful colors
abrades your back
a mosaic of purples, reds, blues and blacks
in fields of fragrant floral
you flutter about under such hop scotch
attack
indirectly inciting memories of Heaven
through the human eye and well into
the soul
your delicate loveliness,
an inadvertent translator of sorts
by the mere sight of you
an emotional reaction to vague
recollections of the spiritual goal
busy, that you are,
darting this way and that
pleasure to the eye you bring
with every twitch of your fluttering wings
a whispered brush of God's own fingers
your tiny feet offer to the back of my
startled hand
from Heaven you must have come
and to Heaven you will return
but for the few days/weeks that you
flutter about upon this earth
with your beauty and grace
man can only hope to discern.........

Author's Notes/Comments:

I saw a blue/ black monarch butterfly joyfully fluttering by me the other day while I was outside and this poem came to me from that lovely experience.
