A DISMISSAL OF TRADITION

JOURNAL # 41

across an empty wind
gifts of grace arrived
spirits met and secretly exchanged
particulars few have been privy to

prior to such sweet surprise
a fellow emptiness I encountered
years like curtains
were slowly drawn away
and behind that wall of
stoic masculinity nearly forgotten
a gentleman emerged
breathing pleasure's finest first breath
all his own
it was a glorious experience
to be put on display
exposing the beauty of simplistic
communication
that can take place between women
and men
maestro of this moment
I welcome you to speak
share with me further
the wonder of this life you lead
and I promise you memories of a
lighter language spoken in return
some summer for your winter
along with a little ice to cool in you
what burns.............

Author's Notes/Comments:

I was recalling a conversation I had not so long ago with a very polite gentleman soldier on line and his confessing to me that he had lead a strict life in the military and how alone he felt since he had missed out on so many things the rest of us take for granted. I was feeling alone too at the time and it surprised me that someone could more strongly reflect a deeper loneliness than what I had been currently experiencing. It reminded me of my grandma saying when you start feeling sorry for yourself just look around and you can find someone who has it far worse than you do. In that instant I realized she was so so right. No doubt about it. This poem evolved from that conversation and my memories of what my grandma told me so very long ago.
