THE SPECTRUM OF HUMANITY (PHOTOGRAPHER STEPHEN DUPONT)

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

through his selfless snapshots

a bridge between the modern

and the ancient

he builds

one roll of film at a time

a cornucopia of near horrifying

yet colorful splendor

he shares one dimensionally

with the world in such great

photographic depth

capturing the oddly unique

to display its beauty

with no glamorous intent

the mix of joy, knowledge, benevolence

with just a touch of an evil like tagging

along with the hunter/gatherer slant

all compile to remind the present day of

the paleolithic sketches the cave dwellers

left behind in prehistoric times

for man to marvel at today

proving we learn just as much from the far

reaches of the world which exist

way less developed by comparison to

the western migration

such tribal Woodstock of New Guinea

he annually depicts

arming the world with

simple fearless reminders

of just how far we as a human race have come

as difficult as it is to digest

the hunter/gatherers thrive on

at the fringes of technical and galactic

accomplishments being pioneered globally

though, 'The Spectrum Of Humanity'

knows no limits

obviously

if you, the reader, have even the slightest

of doubts, I suggest that you

just examine the eye assaulting photos

of Stephen DuPont for yourself

you won't be disappointed

even the slightest

only further enthralled

with the jaw dropping contrasts

his camera so expertly uncovered................

Author's Notes/Comments:

Was watching on PBS news hour last night a report on photographer Stephen DuPont and his umpteen years of photographing the far on the fringes tribes of New Guinea. Was fascinating and I knew once I watched this that a poem would come. If you google his name and PBS news hour you likely can see his story and many photographs for yourself. Was so hard for my mind to digest that there are still such tribes as those that were near prehistoric in the years of old. I so enjoy such unexpected news articles. They always feed my imagination with the wonder that is this span of mankind.
